Mr-Glass Impact Garage Doors: The Opa-locka Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible impact garage doors in Opa-locka for $1,850 to $3,400 installed, depending on door size, wind-load rating, and whether the track hardware also needs replacement. Most Mr-Glass impact-rated panels and hardware kits are available same-day through our Miami-Dade supply chain. Homeowners usually discover a problem when the door hangs unevenly, the opener strains, or they spot stress cracking in the impact glazing after a storm - signs that the torsion spring system, cable drums, or the reinforced panel itself has reached its limit.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass produces impact-rated garage doors under several series lines, and the part you need depends on which generation you own. The IG-200 series, common in Opa-locka homes built between 2016 and 2020, uses a 2-inch track system with proprietary cable drums that differ from the IG-300 series introduced in 2021. Check the interior face of the door for a metal spec tag, usually mounted on the lower right panel; the model prefix and wind-load rating (typically W6 to W12 for Miami-Dade) tell us which hardware kit to order.

We carry both OEM Mr-Glass hardware and verified aftermarket equivalents from Clopay and Amarr where the spec matches. For the IG-200 series, we have found that the aftermarket torsion springs rated for 15,000 cycles perform identically to OEM at roughly 30 percent lower parts cost, though we always confirm the wire diameter and inside diameter against the broken spring before ordering. The IG-300 series uses a heavier 2.25-inch track that is not backward-compatible - a gotcha we have caught on three Opa-locka jobs where a previous installer mixed hardware generations.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Impact Garage Door Is Failing

Signs Your Mr-Glass Impact Garage Door Is Failing
  • The door opens six inches then reverses or stalls. This usually points to a fractured torsion spring that has lost its torque balance. In Opa-locka’s salt-air environment, we see spring corrosion accelerate after year seven, even on galvanized hardware.
  • One side of the door sits lower than the other when closed. A slipped or frayed lift cable is the typical cause. The IG-200 cable drums are particularly sensitive to uneven winding, and a single failed cable puts lateral stress on the track that bends the vertical sections over time.
  • Impact glazing shows spider cracking or delamination. Mr-Glass uses laminated glass with a PVB interlayer rated for large-missile impact. Once the interlayer separates from the glass plies, the panel no longer meets Miami-Dade HVHZ code and must be replaced as a unit, not patched.
  • The opener motor runs but the door barely moves. Stripped nylon gears in the opener head are common after the motor has been fighting a failing spring system. We check spring tension first; replacing the opener without addressing the root load problem wastes the repair.
  • Rust streaks run from the hinges or bottom fixture brackets. Opa-locka’s proximity to the coast means chloride exposure accelerates hardware degradation. The IG-300 series upgraded to stainless bottom fixtures in 2022; earlier IG-200 units often need full hinge replacement by year ten.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Our installed pricing for Mr-Glass impact garage door work in Opa-locka breaks down as follows:

Service Price Range
Single torsion spring replacement (IG-200/300) $280 - $420
Dual spring system replacement $480 - $680
Full impact-rated panel replacement (8’x7′) $1,200 - $1,850
Complete door assembly, installed (IG-300, 16’x7′) $2,800 - $3,400
Track and hardware kit upgrade $650 - $920

What drives the range: door width (single vs. double), wind-load rating required for your Opa-locka zone, and whether the existing track geometry can be reused. Every quote we write includes parts, labor, disposal of the old door, and permit pulling where Miami-Dade requires it. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; manufacturer defects on Mr-Glass panels carry the factory warranty we register at completion. We do not charge a second trip fee if a part fails within that window - we return, diagnose, and correct under the Haven Standard.

There is one safe check a homeowner can make: disconnect the opener by pulling the red release handle and lift the door manually. If it moves smoothly and stays open at waist height, the spring system is likely balanced and the problem may be electrical. If it slams shut, feels heavier on one side, or will not lift at all, the torsion spring or cable system has failed.

We do not recommend DIY spring or cable replacement on any impact-rated garage door. The torsion springs on Mr-Glass doors store roughly 1,200 foot-pounds of torque at full wind; an unwinding spring can cause serious injury or death. The cone fittings on IG-200 and IG-300 springs also require specific winding bars that match the inside diameter - a mismatch slips, and a slipping bar at torque is dangerous. We carry those bars, the door-specific cones, and the liability coverage. For panel or track work, the weight of an impact-rated section (80 to 140 pounds each) makes solo handling impractical.
