Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing

• The deadbolt and latch no longer align with the strike plate. This usually means the hinge screws have loosened in the jamb or the frame has settled. In Opa-locka’s older concrete-block construction, we see this where the original installer used standard wood screws instead of Tapcons into the block, and the weight of an impact-rated door pulls the jamb inward over two to four years.
• Water pools on the interior sill after a hard rain. The sweep at the bottom of the door compresses over time, especially on south and west exposures where UV exposure is highest. CWS sweeps are replaceable, but the 7000 Series uses a proprietary kerf width that standard big-box sweeps won’t fit.
• The door sticks at the top corner opposite the hinges. This indicates the frame is racking, either from hinge failure or from the rough opening being out of square. We measure the diagonal of the frame opening; if it differs by more than 1/8 inch, the door will never seal properly without reframing.
• Visible daylight between the door and the jamb when closed. The compression weatherstrip loses its memory in Florida heat, typically after five to seven years. CWS uses a dual-fin design on the Targa series that is more durable but costs roughly twice as much to replace.
• The multi-point lock handle operates but the bolts don’t extend. The gearbox inside the mechanism has stripped, often from forcing the handle when the door is warped or the frame is twisted. This is not a lubrication problem; the gearbox needs replacement, and continuing to operate it can damage the keeps in the jamb.

An owner can safely check three things: whether the hinge screws are tight to the frame, whether the strike plate is loose, and whether debris is blocking the threshold drainage. Beyond that, CWS multi-point locks and impact-rated door units are not DIY-friendly. The lock mechanism is under spring tension, and incorrect removal can damage the keeps in the jamb or strip the gearbox. Impact-rated doors weigh 80-140 pounds depending on size and glazing; one-person handling risks injury and frame damage.
